Upcoming Advent Retreat by CCWG

I'd like to make my local readers aware that the Charlotte Catholic Women's Group is hosting its annual Advent retreat (also be on the lookout for its annual Lenten retreat!).

Catholics seeking to strengthen their spiritual lives--and if we're not moving forward, we're probably moving backward!--have long been advised in spiritual direction to take an annual retreat of several days. (In fact, priests and religious are required to do so each year.) Yet those of us with many children, in particular young ones, often feel we cannot "leave our duty stations," so these half-day retreats offered by the CCWG are a wonderful opportunity for women in our state of life.

Lap babies are welcome! I'll be there with my nursing 10-month-old. I've spent many a CCWG event with a baby on my back as I walk along the back of the room, if need be.

The CCWG does a wonderful job and I invite all of you to join us there. (An added bonus is that the Sacred Heart Church at Salisbury is visually exquisite.)

Do please register ahead for this event.

The priest giving the retreat is Fr. Putnam:

Father John Putnam, a native of Hickory, NC, was ordained May 30, 1992 by bishop John F. Donoghue.
He served as the Parochial Vicar at Holy Family in Clemmons from 1992-1995. Then Bishop Curlin
sent Father to study Canon Law at the Catholic University of America. Since earning his degree in canon
law, Father Putnam has served as the administrator at Holy Infant and Pastor at Sacred Heart in Salisbury.

He was appointed Judicial Vicar of the Diocese by Bishop Peter Jugis in 2003. In addition to his work as a pastor and Judicial Vicar, Father Putnam serves as the Vicar Forane for the Salisbury Vicariate. He serves on several Diocesan councils and committees including the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consulters, the Diocesan Vocations Board, the Eucharistic Congress Steering Committee and the Priests' Advisory Committee for Forward in Faith, Hope and Love. He is the VP of the Te Deum Foundation, and he and Father Christopher Roux lead an annual pilgrimage to Fatima each year in July.
