Margaret is 18 months old and I think this is such a sweet and fun age. She's my youngest not to need to nurse to sleep. We do our little bedtime routine and I put her in her crib and usually she just falls asleep silently. This was going well until a few weeks ago when she began screaming at that point. Chris went in to her one night and he had the oddest feeling that she was screaming because she couldn't see her books in the darkness, so the next night I began leaving the closet light on as a night light. That was it! So now I end her bedtime routine by placing her in her crib sitting up. She points to her legs, which is her way of asking me to spread her blankie on them. Then she starts "reading" a stack of books we leave in her crib! I listen on the monitor and hear her flipping pages for 10 to 20 minutes and then silence because she has fallen asleep.
Melt my heart! She now has a word for reading, so when she brings me books, she demands, "Reash!" I think it is a contraction of "read this."
Noting the important details!
That is very cute! Philomena at 18 months also enjoys "reading" but I never thought to put some in her crib to help soothe her to sleep. Great idea!
