Mom's Music

Local Davis band: Whiskey Before Breakfast, circa 1982

This is the music my mom used to play! Click here to listen to Boys of Bluehill Harvest Home performed by Whiskey Before Breakfast in 1982. The woman's brief laughter at the beginning is my mom. She played a mighty fine fiddle.

While listening to this music today, I sobbed and Margaret (13 months) danced with toddler joy: a beautiful contrast.

  1. She PLAYED the fiddle?? That is wonderful!

I have a recording my mom made with a friend as a teen (apparently this was an attraction at the beach...you could make your own small record) singing harmony to "Why'd You Go And Spoil It All By Saying Something Stupid Like I Love You". At the end of the song my mom says in a sing song way, "I think we are still recording when the light is on!" It has always cracked me up for some reason and I have always known that someday when my mother was gone this will be my tie to remembering her voice.

    Continued prayers.

  2. Brought tears to eyes and joy to my heart to hear my darling at her peak. She really could have gone places if she had had the chance. Wonderful selection K.

  3. This is wonderful! How neat that you have it! I had no idea your mom played the fiddle. Her laugh sounds like yours to me. :-)

  4. Truly fantastic fiddle playing. Katherine, I'm so sorry for your loss - and Grampa Neil as well. We'll keep your mom and your family in our prayers. God bless.
