Margaret: Day 4

Everyone leaving loving comments on the blog is so treasured by me: thank you!

This is the first baby for which I've had a Moses basket.

So, of course, Mary asked if she could try sitting in it . . . while she adeptly played a game on my iPhone!

John now tells me many things he "knows" about newborns. It's quite an eclectic bunch of factoids! In this above photo, John visited the new baby and really wanted to comfort her himself, so he kept listing out all the things he was going to try if she began crying (e.g., shhhhh for her, pet her hair, sing her a song). When I told him that she'd probably want me to pick her up and nurse her (as I could see her rooting), he insisted more than once that he would comfort her and I should leave her in the basket. It was a sweet possessiveness. I responded by asking for his help picking a new, clean shirt for her to wear, which excited him a lot. Then he helped me change her diaper and dress her, then throw away the dirty diaper. He was so excited to tell his daddy that he was a Super Helper.

I've been so blessed with helpers. The children are having so much fun with their grandparents, doing things like feeding the ducks and flying a kite, while I receive meals in bed five times a day. Tomorrow I plan to descend downstairs for the first time since having Margaret!

  3. You just made our morning- Matthew has sat in my lap and said "baby!" to each photo of little Margaret. She is too precious. Thank you for posting more photos for us. I keep coming each day to see if there are new ones!

  5. TridentineWife: Search online for "Moses basket" and you'll see them for sale. I find them to be quite expensive (often around $100), so I scoured consignment sales for them. I have rarely seen them, so I was happy to snatch this one up for a fraction of the cost of a new one. They're used when the baby is sleeping in the daytime, probably for 2-3 months (and then the baby is too big). It makes it easier to carry a sleeping baby around as mama moves about the house doing tasks. Margaret still doesn't love it, so usually doesn't last long in it, so we'll see how it works out. We cosleep at night, so the basket is just for daytime napping. And today I wore her in the sling for the first time so she discovered the peace of daytime sleeping on mama, so who knows if she'll ever agree to the basket!
