R.I.P. Tomato Crop

Today we memorialize our entire crop of cherry tomatoes, picked in the green youth of life. May you rest in peace in a better place where one-year-olds don't get into the vegetable patch and pick every single tomato off the bush when Mother isn't looking. We will remember you fondly and know that you would have achieved red sweetness had your life not been plucked so early. (Stock photo from online.)

  1. OH NO!! How terrible!!
My kids have not tried to pick unripe things yet. It's quite a big honor for them to be chosen to gather something from the garden.
Which is odd considering how much more destructive my kids seem to be than yours.
I'm really sorry about your tomatoes. Hopefully you will get lots more flowers and fruit before summer's over.

  2. Don't through them out! Make yummy green mexican salsa! We love it! Puree with onions and garlic and a chili or jalapeno pepper. Chill for a bit and MMMMMMMMMM.

  3. Reminds me of when we were kids. There was a tree in our backyard that always had hard little 'fruits' on it, that we'd pick and throw at each other. One summer we just left them on the tree and discovered the tree was a Plum tree. They were so good!!! One day you'll have red, ripe, tomatoes!!! :)

  4. Teresa picked a green tomato a few weeks ago. I was so sad, I couldn't decide what to do with it at that moment, so I left it on the side of the garden bed. The next day we were out again and Teresa picked up the green tomato and tried to put it back on the plant. So sweet!
