Unfortunately, I'm really starting to think that Mary does not have chicken pox, but has a "generic viral rash with fever." This afternoon John developed a 100-degree fever, but then it broke and he has no spots. Varicella is not a vaccination we've chosen to give and, while it's never fun to be in the midst of illness, I was really hoping Mary (and soon John) would get through this and have immunity. But Mary's mystery spots just aren't developing the way I'd expect to see and, by the end of the today, Mary's fever has broken.
Sorry to hear it's not the pox! I had to laugh because you sound just like my Mom--she was forever trying to get me exposed to chicken pox, and no matter how many times I was around someone with them, I never got them. And people kept saying, "You must've just had a mild case at some point." I finally got tested for the immunity when I was 33 (before I wanted to start trying for a family--since they're so dangerous during pregnancy), and it turns out I had no immunity to them--never got them, no matter how many times my Mom tried to get me sick! :-) Hopefully you'll have better luck than she did...
ReplyDeleteI suppose the up side is that your kiddos will probably be feeling much better soon.
Too bad! However, if it's not the pox, I'm glad Mary's feeling better. Maybe it's for the best: we had a chance to go to a pox party a few years ago, but I read that it can actually be pretty dangerous in kids under two.
ReplyDeleteDS2 had mysterious spots on much of his body last summer. They lasted for MONTHS. We still don't know what it was. Either a seasonal allergy or a severe reaction to teething (they vanished once his 1 year molars were in, but unfortunately that corresponded with the end of summer). I hope you never have to go through that!
