Yes, he did choose his own outfit today.
In John's mind, it was warm enough outside that he wore short overalls and sandals without socks, but cold enough outside that he should wear his corduroy coat (with leather elbow patches!). I bought him his first belt at yesterday's consignment sale and John wore it proudly, "to hold my jacket on."
Yes, we let him go out in public that way.
You're braver than I am. I always end up trying to convince my Ambrose to wear what I want him to wear.
ReplyDeleteWay to go John!!! Excellent choices (especially the sandals sans socks; that particular fashion statement--socks with sandals-- is a major fashion no-no and a pet peeve of mine!).
ReplyDeleteI typically allow Emma out in her crazy get ups...most of the time.
Anna: Well, most of John's clothing is really "square" and conservative, so there's not much harm he can do, even when he gets creative. But I do dissuade him from wearing his beloved red sweatpants and much oversized tee-shirt with printing on it when we go out in public. And I try to direct him to pick a short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt. With the warm weather, I stocked his drawer with shorts the other day and when he put one pair on, he was really concerned. "These are too small! They don't go down to here" [pointing to his ankles]. I had to explain that they are "shorts," which he must have forgotten existed since last summer.
ReplyDeleteFunny, Emma had a similar response to her shorts yesterday. It was pretty warm, so I tried to get her to wear a pair of shorts, but she announced that they were "too small." When I tried to explain to her, and compared them to a similar pair of shorts that I wear, she got mad and exclaimed, "NO, I'm not going to wear those silly pants!!!"
ReplyDelete(granted, she WAS very tired after a 3 mile hike we had done earlier that day)
