Our St. Ignatius of Loyola

It struck me today that John is our own little St. Ignatius of Loyola. Ignatius was, of course, the soldier-saint who was first fell in love with Christianity while convalescing for months from battle wounds and found himself in a home containing only Catholic books to read to pass the time.

John has now spent two straight days on the couch, not moving, and we've carried him down there in the mornings, then carried him back to bed at night. He's watched a lot of TV, but he's also asking me to read to him . . . the Bible! All he wants is the Bible. I read from a children's Bible that is old-fashioned with quite elevated language, not a whole lot more modern than most translations of the Bible. At one point tonight I thought we were done reading (how many chapters can I read to this poor kid?) and I had set down the book and walked away, when John asked in his pathetically small sick voice, "Mama? Will you keep reading the story? I want you to finish it." And I looked at the half of the Bible remaining and wondered what "finish it" meant!

Anyway, little "St. Ignatius" seems to be asleep for the night now, with Daddy who is also feverish and sick.

  2. Katherine, I am sorry to hear this, Sophia only had really low grade fever - no vomiting and no high fever at all - Actually she felt great after Motrin. If I had known she was going to get sick on Sunday, i wouldn't have let her come visit.
I hope you all are well soon!
I don't think she was the "host" of what you all now have...;)

  3. Oh, I hope you and Mary don't get it! Poor little John!
One time recently Will twisted his knee when he fell and he was confined to the couch or bed for 3 and a half days. At some point during the second day he figured he'd had enough and said "I'm done!" Then he decisively got up from the couch and took three steps, at which point he turned to me crying with his arms outstretched and sank to the ground! I felt so sorry for him!
Thankfully, Will has not yet been sick enough to stay in bed, but I'm sure John is as "done" with it as William was!
I hope you all are well, soon!
