Handmade Bread

This week I tried my hand at handmade homemade bread--no bread machine. The bread turned out gorgeous and delicious. The trouble remains that making bread by hand requires a lot of timing. I have to find a way to walk away during the rising times, but then be back at just the right time to knead again, so I can't have dashed out for errands or be busy putting the children down for naps. And the initial knead of 20 minutes requires somehow having the children safely occupied for 20 minutes without my needing to intercede repeatedly--and how often do I have a 20-minute stretch like that in a day? All in all, it was an enjoyable process and the outcome was lovely, so I'll try again.

  1. rising times are not exact at all. you can certainly go to the store or watch a twilight zone marathon. The last rising time is probably the one you want to keep within an hour of the recipe number but the bread will turn out either way.

might not be worth it for the mess, but for the quiet it might be - to break off small pieces of the dough and let john and mary knead their own with you.
