John has lately been learning about traffic lights and he's got it pretty well down that green means go, red means stop, and yellow means slow down. But last week he was momentarily confused and as we driving briskly down a 45-mph road and passing through an intersection, John screamed, "Mama! Stop! Stop!" I had the presence not to slam on the breaks because of a two-year-old's warning, but I was shouting, "What? What is it?" and I was worried there was a deer or a squirrel in the road. John answered with great concern, "Green means stop, Mama! Stop!"
And now all of this green-yellow-red talk has led to him asking driving questions. Yesterday I was paused in an intersection, facing a green light, waiting for traffic to pass so I could make a left hand turn. John pointed out helpfully that it was green, so I should go. I explained why I was pausing and that led to all kinds of questions about traffic. It's fun, but it's also frustrating when he's asking a chain of questions that move beyond his ability to understand, but he's so very interested that he keeps asking.
