Eating Proper Meals

Recently I've been introducing the concept that certain foods are for or not for certain times of day. Mostly I use this rule to explain why we can't have sweets right now. "Chocolate granola bars are not for breakfast. They're a special snack!" or "Ice cream isn't for lunch! That's for dessert before bedtime."

Also recently, John is back to eating oatmeal. He goes on food jags and then he eschews foods, and oatmeal has been on the black list for months. Lately he's begun randomly eating oatmeal again, generally for afternoon snack or at dinnertime.

This morning I was trying to choose something for John's breakfast and suggested oatmeal. He answered, scoffing at the ridiculousness of it all: "Oatmeal is not for breakfast, Mama!"
