Catching Up: Thursday in Atlanta

Last week Chris was out of town for five days on business while all eight grandchildren descended upon the grandparents in Atlanta. This was my first time driving both children the 250-mile trip by myself. Normally when Chris is driving it still goes badly enough that I spend the trip riding in the back between the carseats, entertaining the children. This trip could have been much worse, but it did start with an hour of Mary crying terribly, the poor dear. We made it in five hours with three stops: pretty good!

Aunt Holly had not seen Mary since she was a month old, I think.

John enjoyed racing pell-mell up and down the stone steps on a little hill, making my heart race too.

On this trip John was finally old enough to ride the skateboard on the driveway like his older cousins, albeit a bit slower!

Grandmom and oldest cousin Olivia (9) arranged "Christmas in July."

John received a train and his cousin Ryan (8) received a helicopter.

Grandmom and Pop-Pops arranged for a woodworking craft project and even hired a professional carpenter to help! Here is John using real tools with Pop-Pops.

Sophia (4) and John (2).

I helped John build a pirate's ship. I found it amusing that if John wakes up in the night and cries too loud, he wakes his sister, but Mary slept soundly for several hours despite being surrounded by seven children using hammers and drills in an enclosed garage!

The five girls (here Cameron, 7) made quilt racks and Ryan made a fishing pole rack.
