"Let's Clean Up!"

This morning I was confused when John pulled his Learning Tower over to the utensil drawer and said, "Let's clean up, Mom!" What was he talking about?

It turns out that he wanted to sort silverware. I've been intending to start teaching him that chore and yesterday I took my first stab at it. We stood at the counter with all the clean silverware from the dishwasher and practiced matching it like a fun game. "Where is it the same, John?" It was painstaking and I thought that maybe John was too young, so I should wait to try again.

But this morning John proved me wrong when he made his way to the utensil drawer by himself, pulled out all the utensils, spread them on the counter, and said, "Let's clean up, Mom! Let's clean up!" And then he did it all by himself. What fun for me as a mom!
