Will Mary's Eyes Remain Blue?

So, some of you think Mary's eyes might remain blue? That would be very fun for her parents (brown and hazel eyes)! In a computer mishap, I think I've lose all of the photos of John when he was four months old (March 2007). (Of course, I could go to the blog archives and reclaim them from there.) In his three-month photos, his eyes are still blue but in his five-month photos, they are brown. I reviewed them again today and it does appear that his blue eyes at four months were darker than are Mary's at four months. Here is as close a comparison as I can get:

  1. Wow, I hadn't noticed the resemblance between John and Mary until I saw their four-month pictures together! Their eyes are different shape, for sure, but the little button noses and cute little mouths look nearly identical!

I've finally decided that Theo's eyes may stay blue. Mine stayed blue (and then green) for 18 months, but I think they're usually pretty well set by nine months. Mary's look quite dark in the pictures, so I can't decide what I think they'll do. Either way, they'll be gorgeous framed by those thick, dark lashes!

  2. While it's true babies' eyes take a while to get to their final color, I think eyes that will be brown are pretty obvious. (Having spent months with four of my children going "they're ... not ... quite ... brown ... YET ...!!! is there still any hope? perhaps a stormy grey color? dark green? something, anything!" lol)
They all started out dark blue and the ones that were trending brown turned darker and changed - not straight to brown, true, but still in that darker direction through shades of grey, blue and even green on the way.
The one who ended up blue (and now almost blue-green) was OBVIOUS from the start, her eyes started darkish newborn blue and immediately started lightening to a color similar to what i see in Mary in these photos. I think you have good reason to expect her eyes will be light (perhaps green or hazel or blue) but almost surely not true brown!
We can check back later and see if I was right!!!

  3. oh also, the brown started in the ring around the iris as a dark blue ring that turned brown before the rest of the iris followed. But certainly by about a month or two the ring was decidedly darker.

  4. Well, I think whatever color her eyes turn out to be, I agree with Cathleen...framed by those thick, dark lashes, they (and she) will be gorgeous!

  5. i'm thinking -from the photo you have posted- that Mary's eyes will stay blue. I agree with what Sarah said about brown eyes being obvious.

  6. Or maybe they will be hazel.
It just doesn't seem like they are going to turn brown. They don't have that dark/steely look to them that babies whose eyes are destined to be brown have. Even John's "blue" picture, from a distance his eyes look dark...
