Girl Clothing

Shopping for baby girl clothing is incredibly fun. Mary is developing quite the wardrobe, what with Christmas gifts, hand-me-downs from my sisters-in-law, and my shopping spree at our fabulous nearby consignment store yesterday. Is it even fair to take Mary out in public wearing this delightful Ralph Lauren piece I found for $2? Note the details in the puffy shoulders and precious Peter Pan collar with embroidered flowers! This little girl is going to stop traffic!
Mary is smiling more and more, especially in response to parental cooing and smiling. She has moved beyond flashes of a smile and will now give smiles for half a minute at a stretch.

(Okay, maternal relatives: Am I seeing correctly that Mary has one eye that squints shut more than the other when she smiles, plus a skewed smile--just like my mom and I have?)

  1. I knew you would just love shopping for a baby girl, and it can quite often be difficult to restrain oneself! :) There have been times Jason has sent me out to get something nice for myself, and I end up coming home with stuff for Emma instead (he gets kind of mad at that)!

As for that bottom photo of Mary smiling...first off, CUTE!!! Second, I'm not a relative, but I certainly see the resemblance.

  2. Cutie! Although I don't imagine I will need to buy much in the way of clothes for Teresa for MONTHS, I am interested to know what store you visited.

  3. I love girl clothing. I'm glad we don't find out what we're having ahead of time, because if I found out we were having a girl I think we'd be broke by now from me buying pink outfits. Also, I meant to tell you that I think Mary is really resembling her mama these days!

  4. Frances: I have been buying at Once Upon A Child, and there happens to be a location only blocks from my house, but it is a chain located all over the place. Kid-to-Kid is also excellent, but I don't think Charlotte has one.

I didn't buy much clothing for John in the early months either because I'd received a tremendous amount of gender-neutral hand-me-downs. But when Mary came along, I was desperate to buy pink instead of dressing her in yellow and green!

Consignment sales organized by the community and usually hosted at churches are excellent opportunities as well. Atlanta had a thriving consignment sale "season" and I bought so much of John's belongings there. I haven't yet tapped into the consignment sales in Charlotte yet. I need to find out how/where they are announced!
