Local Cemeteries

On Sunday we wanted to do a fun family activity, but I was at the tail end of a pretty miserable sickness, so I didn't want to do any activity so much as involving much walking, lest I tire out and get sicker again. We ended up driving to see two local churches and a cemetery. First we popped in to see the local Society of St. Pius X church. On our way back, we pulled into St. Joseph's, which we spotted on the side of the road. The church sits right in the middle of its graveyard with headstones professing those touching, elegant inscriptions typical of yesteryear. We've since learned that only two Masses per year are celebrated in this sweet, historic church! (Read this article here for more.)

Then we visited the old cemetery of Belmont Abbey, although it is now snuggled tightly between a Hampton Inn and an auto dealership.

John had fun digging dirt while there. (Don't worry, this wasn't near the grave sites. He was digging on the gravel road for cars and in the leaves in the peripheral forest.)

On an unrelated note, John said a cute thing the other day. He loves the show Blues Clues, with its famous dog's blue paw prints left as clues. John was looking through his baby book with me for the first time. When he came to the page with his newborn foot prints, he exclaimed, "clues!"

  1. have y'all seen the Wal-Mart/Lowes abbey-like architecture near Belmont? DD and DH saw them and got the low down when they went to visit Belmont Abbey a few months ago.

Have a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year!
