Better late than never, we purchased Advent candles and a candle-holder just in time for the Vigil of the Fourth Sunday of Advent. John was very impressed with the flames, so our prayers were interrupted by his own litany of, "More! More! More!" (as in, light the fourth candle, please!).
Today John went beyond his pen-and-paper drawing and did his first arts and crafts. I dug through my drawers of art supplies and introduced him to the wonders of Elmer's glue, scissors, and tape. He still has to learn that glue dries and then pulling off the item glued will tear the paper.
How did John do with the scissors?? I've been considering getting some blunted safety ones for Emma, but wasn't sure if she was old enough for them yet. She definitely understands what they are for (she occasionally asks me to use my kitchen shears on something for her), but I'm just a little nervous about the idea of her with scissors!
ReplyDeleteJaneane: Oh, sorry, I didn't let John do any cutting. He had never even seen how scissors, glue, and tape work, so I operated all of those. He got to help with the glue in that he'd guide the bottle and I'd do the squeezing. I think if I gave him blunt scissors, he'd use them to stab something/someone.
ReplyDeleteGreat art project! Scissors and glue and tape are all favorites here too. We limit tape use because he still tangles it though! I think scissors and glue recently edged out painting as the #1 art activity which held top honors for a looong time. Coloring is a far distant third (or even fourth behind playdough). :-D
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog, and no, you're definitely NOT a slacker. You just had a baby! Plus, different kids, different interests. To answer your question: our first son is about five months older than John (he'll be 2.5 12/29) and my younger son will be five months soon (also on 12/29).
