Sweeping Leaves

Yesterday afternoon I wanted to take John for a walk in the gorgeous fall weather, but pregnancy complaints nixed that idea, so I took him in the backyard to sweep leaves as outdoor time instead. I brought a big broom for me and a little broom for him and the result was a grand time had by John. When we got the leaves from the deck swept together, John discovered for the first time the fun of a dry, crunchy leaf pile.

Note at the end of the first video how John claps at his own accomplishment.

We still have no photos of the giant hawk who makes his nest in our backyard and his hunting ground in our surrounding neighborhood. This morning we spotted him in our neighbor's front yard eating a squirrel of all things. It was very exciting! John doesn't understand death yet or he would have had more sympathy for his beloved squirrel. Instead he commented, "hawk, nut [squirrel], jump" (as the hawk stomped his talons up and down on the limp squirrel corpse).
