And this is why I try to wash the dishes only during John's two naps and when Chris is around to keep him occupied in the living room . . .
May I present some short video clips of John laughing it up at Mama's antics (he would touch me gingerly and I'd fall backwards as if in a swoon and collapse in the chair):
I have that same "problem!" I know another little red head who likes to crawl into the dishwasher. Dishes are done only when Emma is napping or having a snack in her high chair.
Sarah: We tell him "no" and redirect him all the time. We've been working on that for a couple of months. We expect age-appropriate responses from him. We don't expect a 12-month-old to be able to consistently resist exploring the open dish washer. Nor do I want to face repeated melt-downs and screaming fits throughout the day. Avoidance of tantrum-producing situations--the ones that are very easy to avoid anyway--seems like a great tactic for the 12-24-month range, until their neugological pathways and higher brain functions have physically developed, allowing them more self-control over their primal emotions. :)

ReplyDeleteThose videos are great...what a terrific laugh.
So when do you plan on teaching him "no"? We usually start when they are mobile for just that reason.
