Animal Naming Contest

Katherine and I are not in agreement as to what animal this is on John's new pajamas. We need your help. Please submit your vote by way of comment to this post.

  1. A giraffe? Hardly! Please, may I direct the audience to this photo of a zebra:

Note the short, spiky mane. Note the stripes. Note the somewhat stubby tail.

    Compare that to a giraffe!

The critters on John's pajamas do not have spots, nor those little "horns" on the head.

I may have left law school early, but I REST MY CASE. :D

  2. K.,
your post beat me by a minute. I was trying to decide which species of zebra. I vote for a stylized mountain zebra since stripes do not meet under belly. Muzzle and mane definitely make it a zebra, albeit with too few stripes.

  3. I was gonna vote for Nessie the Loch Ness Monster.

  4. As a former zoo employee (who actually shoveled zebra and giraffe poo), I have no doubts that this is a zebra!!!!!!!!

  5. when I first saw the PJs in a different picture, from afar I thought they were old-fashioned Tiggers ala Winnie the Pooh. When I zoomed in, I thought, "oh, zebras. Not tigger".
sorry Chris, giraffes have longer necks.

  6. ... on second thought I think Chris is right this could be a giraffe or maybe even Nessie.

That husband of yours sure is smart.

  7. I also think Chris is right, and I was wrong with my first comment. This certainly isnt a zebra. Katherine is wrong this time.... like I am sure she often is.

  9. Dear Katherine,

As the host of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, I spent my life's work among the animals of the safari.

I can say definitively that I have never seen any zebra that looks like the figure drawn on your sons' pajamas.

I also know your husband Chris to be a man of incredible intelligence... and I am sure what ever he thinks this creature is that he is probably correct.

In my expert opinion, Chris is right and you are wrong… so there!

    Sincerely yours,
    Marlin Perkins

  11. Dear Katherine,

I declare that this creature is a new, previously undesignated, species of the Genus Giraffa family.

Your husband Chris will go down in history as one of the greatest discoverers of all time.

You are a lucky woman to be married to such a man.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Theodore Witherspoon

  12. So here are the latest vote totals:

Agree with Chris that this creature is a new, previously undesignated, species of the Genus Giraffa family:
    Janeane
    Elaine
    Grampa Neil
    Marlin Perkins
    Dr. Theodore Witherspoon

Agree with Katherine that this creture is a zebra:
    Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
    Shelly

    Vote totals:
    5 for Chris
2 for Katherine (including a very suspicious entry from the President of Iran, ... but I will give it to her)

  13. Speaking of zebra POOP, I smell something around here! Did anybody check the identification of some of these later voters or were they brought in on buses by somebody (Chris!) with ill intent?!?

  14. Hey...I don't remember making a second post here changing my vote!!! I think someone stole my identity. Someone's up to no good. And is Marlin Perkins even alive anymore???

  15. I believe some major voter fraud has been committed, as I, Elaine, do not remember going back and changing my vote. I demand a thorough investigation and am willing to take this to the highest courts. I am certain there were no hanging chads on my assertion that this is, indeed, a zebra.

  16. I have one word for you Chris:
    Ohio!

  17. Thank you all for your concern... after some thorough investigation it seems in fact that there is enough evidence to nullify the suspicious vote cast by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Our apologies for this unfortunate episode.

  18. It could be a giraffe if one used their imagination! Since I am Chris' mom I hate to go against my son.
