Private Auto Collection

Last Tuesday, we visited a private collection of automobiles owned by friends of Grampa and Camie. We saw at least 60 gorgeous old cars in this warehouse. Even I--who basically dislikes all "car talk"--found the private tour exciting.

The couple owns most of the memorabilia from the original Batman show. Here is John in a baby Batcar ride:

Cousin Ethan in the Batmobile:
The Batboat:
The Batcycle:
One of the General Lee cars from the Dukes of Hazard television show. About 300 of such cars were made for the show.
The Dragula car from the Munster's television show:

Look at the gorgeous wood on this auto:
Cousin Ethan looking cool on a motorcycle:
This is a new car for utilitarian purposes: this Ford 650 (did you know such a thing exists?) makes my 6'4" Grampa look small!

Cousin Ethan goofing off in a car which the owner and his son rolled three times in a race (they made it out okay!):

When I saw this car, I noticed a snake on the hood ornament. I thought to myself, "Okay, this is a snake car. What cars are named after snakes?" I wanted to appear like I actually knew something, so I said knowingly, "Oh, this is a Cobra." Ethan looked at me strangely and said, "No, it's a Viper. Can't you see that that's not a cobra? Cobras have different heads." I was so embarrassed!
Ethan in one of the many red cars (make unknown to me) in the collection of much newer Corvettes, Porches, and Ferraris.
This was the ladies' favorite car--so pretty!

What was the most beautiful thing of all about this auto collection were the owners. They are completely unaffected by their monetary blessings and love to share their collection, expecting all of us to sit in the cars and touch them. They keep all the cars running and they open the collection to fundraising groups for free to earn money for good causes.

  1. Pretty cool.
That was a long time without blogging, for you. I was wondering what happened!
So are you anywhere near OLG seminary? I guess it's in Denton?

  2. Yes, OLG seminary is in Denton only 10 minutes outside of Lincoln. We didn't go there on this trip, but went once before to visit Fr. Berg. On this trip we assisted at Mass at the FSSP apostolate in Lincoln (a gorgeous church) and then went to lunch with the ever-affable Fr. Fromageot, whom Chris and I had spent the day with in Rome on our honeymoon.

  3. That collection is AWESOME! We are huge fans of the batman television show. Have you seen that movie made way back when? Many of those vehicles are used in the movie, which we got on DVD to show the kids. They thought it was cheesy, not very high tech compared to today's special effects.

We are also HUGE fans of the Dukes of Hazzard. I loved the Dukes when I was a teenager. I still like John Schneider...he was 'recently' in the Felicity movie. Did you slide in through the window to sit in that car? I would have, skirt or not! LOL! Yes, I'm a hopeless fan of a cheesy show...that was really a cheesy show!

  4. Lily: I didn't get into any of the cars because I was busy holding Baby John. But Ethan got in many of the cool ones!
