Today I attended a different chapter's LLL meeting because they were hosting a special guest speaker, Cynthia Stevens Graubart, co-author of The One-Armed Cook. The book is full of recipes that really can be made with only one hand because the other hand is busy holding a baby. Mrs. Graubart made us tortellini and bean soup right in front of us and it was delicious! I enjoyed meeting some new LLL women.
I have further baby-proofed my kitchen dining area in hopes that John will play in it more peaceably while I cook. I set him up with a plastic bowl full of a couple inches of water and some small Tupperware pieces. He kept himself quite happily busy while I prepared slow-cooker turkey breast, roast potatoes and onions, and green vegetables. (Note to self: the piece of meat I bought was skinless breast and the slow-cooker recipe calls for turkey with skin for a reason--it needs more fat to withstand the long cooking time.)
I have always kept my tupperware and plastic ware in a bottom cabinet, not because I like it there or find it most useful, it is to entertain the kiddies, lol. I have a friend (with more room in her kitchen than I have) who keeps her play kitchen set in the kitchen so thelittle one can cook while she does. A good idea I'd say.
ReplyDeleteOh, the turkey sounds good, I need to make more slow cooker recipes.
ReplyDeleteLily: Here is a first-time mother question for you. I really am not a nut about germs. That said, one reason I haven't shown John that he can play in my Tupperware cabinet (which is a low one) is that I feel I have to put all the Tupperware he plays with in the dish washer. He puts them in his mouth and drags them across our kitchen floor, which is covered in cat fur and invisible things (like our cats walk in the litter box, then walk across the wooden floor . . . ew!). If John had full access to my Tupperware cabinet, he'd pull out many and then I'd want to wash them all. Do other moms do that or do they just throw the Tupperware back in the cabinet for later use with food?
ReplyDeleteSo are you planning a first haircut in the near future? :-)
ReplyDeleteSarah: I have indeed been pondering when to first cut my sweet boys' locks. His hair is now long enough that it gets kind of zany, especially after waking up from naps. But I don't want to cut his hair so he looks like a big boy! :( I might need to do some shaping soon, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of scissors should I use???
Doesn't look like he needs a haircut yet to me.... he doesn't have a mullet and it isn't hanging in his eyes :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, the reason I love having a boy is I use the buzzer. I am so buzzer happy. Plus - you get more hair for his first hair cut leavings! :-)
